Bedydd/Christening

Dydd Gwener, Tachwedd 22ain, aethon ni i Eglwys Santes Fair ifedyddio ein doli dosbarth Lili Ffion. Roedden ni am ddysgu sut mae Cristnogion yn croesawu babanod newydd i’r Eglwys. Rhieni Lili Ffion oedd Casey ac Erin Lois a’i rhieni bedydd oedd Gwilym, Ela Haf a Megan. Roeddem i gyd yn westeion arbenni a gwisgon ni ddillad smart.

 

Yn gyntaf, dyma Father Neil yn rhoi dwr yn y bedyddfaen a’i fendithio. Yn ail, darllenodd Lewis ddarn o’r Beibl am Ioan yn fedyddio Iesu. Yna, dyma Father Neil yn rhoi dwr o’r gragen ar ben Lili Ffion dair gwaith. Nesaf rhoddodd e gannwyll i Casey , Dadi Lili Ffion. Yn olaf, roedden ni wedi gweddio trwy ddweud Gweddi’r Arglwydd.

 

Ar ol mynd yn ol i’r ysgol, cawson ni gacen siocled a gwin!

 

 

On Friday, November 22nd, we went to St. Mary’s Church for Father Neil to christen our class doll, Lili Ffion. We wanted to learn how Christians welcome new babies into the Church.

Lili Ffion’s parents were Casey and Erin Lois and her godparents were Gwilym, Ela Haf and Megan. We were all special guests and dressed up in smart clothes.

 

First of all, Father Neil put water into the font and blessed it.

Lewis then read a passage from the Bible about John baptizing Jesus in the river Jordan. Then Father Neil baptized Lili Ffion by putting water from the shell on to her head three times. Next, he gave Casey (the Dad) a candle to hold for Lili Ffion. At the end of the service, we all prayed by saying the Lord’s Prayer.

Llythrennau a Synau/Letters and Sounds

Fel yr ydych eisioes yn ymwybodol, ym mis Medi,  dechreuwyd dysgu cynllun ffonegau newydd – ‘Llythrennau a Synau’– er mwyn dysgu sgiliau darllen a sillafu. Credwn ei fod yn cael effaith cadarnhaol yn barod ac hoffem roi mwy o wybodaeth i chi am y cynllun, er mwyn i chi helpu’ch plentyn gartref gyda’r sgiliau hyn.

 

Rhennir y cynllun yn 6 cham. Mae Cam 1 yn canolbwyntio ar sgiliau siarad a gwrando mewn paratoad ar gyfer dysgu synau’r llythrennau yn y camau canlynol . Yng Ngham 2, dechreuir ar ddysgu ffonegau yn ffurfiol ac yn systematig: dysgir pa sŵn mae pob llythyren yn ei wneud; sut i glymu’r synau mewn geiriau er mwyn eu darllen; a sut i rannu’r synau mewn geiriau er mwyn eu sillafu. Dysgir synau’r llythrennau mewn setiau o 4/5:

·        Set 1 – m  a  c  p  t

·        Set 2 – d  i  n  o  l

·        Set 3 – b  f  h  e  s

·        Set 4 – w  g  u  r  j

·        Set 5 – y  ff  dd  ll  ng

·        Set 6 – rh  th  ch  ae

 

Wrth weithio ar bob set o lythrennau, dysgir y plant sut i ddarllen geiriau sy’n eu cynnwys trwy glymu, e.e. yn Set 1, dysgant ddarllen geiriau megis am, ac, pat, map a.y.b. Dysgant hefyd sut i rannu’r synau yn y geiriau hyn er mwyn eu sillafu.

 

Sut y gallwch chi helpu:

Rydym yn anfon siart o’r llythrennau adref – ‘Yr Wyddor Stumie’ – er mwyn i chi helpu’ch plentyn adolygu’r synau mae ef/hi wedi eu dysgu yn yr ysgol. Rhown ni’r llythrennau hyn ar eu cylchoedd allweddi personol hefyd, felly byddwch yn gwybod ar ba rai i ganolbwyntio

Cofiwch, yn y Gymraeg, mae , ch, dd, ff, ng, ll, ph a th yn cael eu cyfrif fel un llythyren sydd hefyd yn gwneud un sŵn . Rydym wedi amgau taflen i’ch cynorthwyo i ynganu’r synau’n gywir.

 

Ar eu cylchoedd allweddi hefyd, bydd ganddynt y geiriau allweddol (geiriau cyffredin) sy’n cynnwys y synau hyn, er mwyn iddynt ymarfer eu darllen a’u sillafu gartref .

Fe sylwch, efallai, yn Set 6 (Cam 2), y cyflwynir deugraff (dwy lythyren sy’n gwneud un sŵn, sef  ae, fel yn y gair cyffredin mae. Yng Ngham 3 a 4, bydd y plant yn dysgu mwy o ddeugraffau ynghyd â’r synau eraill mae llafariaid yn gallu eu gwneud, e.e. Cam 2 – u hirsydd yn un, Sul a.y.b

 

Cam 3 – u byr sydd yn pump, munud  a.y.b

 

Os oes gennych unrhyw gwestiynau neu bryderon ynglŷn â ‘Llythrennau a Synau’, mae croeso i chi ofyn.

 

Llythrennau a Synau (Letters and Sounds)

 

As you are already aware, in September we began implementing a new phonics scheme – Llythrennau a Synau (Letters and Sounds) – to teach reading and spelling skills. We feel that it is already having an effective input and would like to give you more information about it, so that you can also help your child with these skills at home.

 

The scheme is divided into 6 phases. Phase 1focuses on speaking and listening skills in preparation for learning letter sounds in the later phases. At Phase 2, the formal and systematic teaching of phonics begins: the children are taught the sound each letter makes; how to blend the sounds in words in order to read them; and how to segment the sounds in words in order to spell them. The letter sounds are taught in sets of 4/5:

·        Set 1 – m  a  c  p  t

·        Set 2 – d  i  n  o  l

·        Set 3 – b  f  h  e  s

·        Set 4 – w  g  u  r  j

·        Set 5 – y  ff  dd  ll  ng

·        Set 6 – rh  th  ch  ae

 

Whilst learning each set of sounds, the children are taught how to read words containing those sounds by blending, e.g. in Set 1, they will learn to read words such as am, ac, pat, map etc. They will also learn how to segment the sounds in these words in order to spell them.

 

How you can help:

We are sending home a chart of the letters – ‘Yr Wyddor Stumie’ (The Action Alphabet) – so that you can help your child revise the letter sounds he/she has learned in school. We will put the letter sounds that they are currently learning on their personal key rings also, so that you know which ones to focus on. Remember that in Welsh, ch, dd, ff, ng, ll, ph andth are counted as 1 letter making 1 sound. We have attached a sheet to help you pronounce some of these letter sounds. Please don’t over-pronounce letter sounds by saying cuhfor c,because this can make blending difficult for the children.Keep the sounds short and clean – the children will probably correct you anyway!

 

Their key rings will also have the keywords (common words) which contain those letter sounds, so that they can practise reading and spelling these at home.

You may notice that in Set 6 of Phase 2, we introduce a digraph (two letters which make one sound), namely ae, as in the common word mae. InPhase 3 and4, the children will learn more digraphs as well as the alternative sounds that some letters make, e.g. in Phase 2, they learn that u makes a long sound as in the wordun (one), but in Phase 3, they will also learn that it can make a shorter sound as in pump (five).
