Dosbarth Elan

Blwyddyn 3 a 4 Ffrwd Gymraeg

Welcome to Dosbarth Elan!

This term’s topic is ‘There’s no place like home!’

Our topic for this term is a humanities-based topic. During the term, the focus of learning will be to build a sense of identity and belonging and a sense of heritage. Through learning about their locality and the story of Wales, as well as the story of the wider world, learners will develop an understanding of the complex, pluralistic and diverse nature of societies, past and present. Children will have the opportunity to understand the values, beliefs, and traditions of societies, including religious beliefs. They will be given the opportunity to learn how over time, places, communities, and societies evolve and change and come to understand some of the causes and consequences. We will begin through learning about our locality and their prior knowledge of the area before focusing on the rich history of the area, such as
the history of Llywelyn the Great. We will also be learning about special buildings such as the places of worship in Builth and the castle. We hope to venture out and learn more about the history of our town.

In language lessons, our focus will be on developing oracy skills through topic-based work. We will concentrate on discussion activities and further enhance oracy by using a range of drama techniques. In mathematics, we will belearning about timelines, compass points and position, 2d and 3d shapes, multiplication and division and money.
