Croeso nol i Ddosbarth Irfon! Welcome back to Dosbarth Irfon! Myself, Miss Bethan Williams, Miss Emily Thomas, Mrs Enfys Davies have been blown away by the enthusiasm of the children for the new topic, ‘Anifeiliaid Bach y Byd’ (Literal translation – Small animals of the world but really is about the wonders of the animal world). We began by discussing what we already know about animals and what we would like to know about different groups of animals.

The children couldn’t believe their eyes one Friday afternoon when they returned from dinner play to find the class covered with flour footprints. There was a lot of discussion about what had happened and what they should do next. We found out that the poor ‘Little Red Hen’ had been looking for us as she was fed up and had decided to go on strike! We read the story and found out that her friends were very lazy and weren’t working as part of a team. Dosbarth Irfon to the rescue! The children decided on ways to help the hen and also ways to make the friends more willing to help with different chores. The Little Red Hen is currently on a mini break at Mrs Davies’ farm. She is sending us weekly updates and through this we are exploring farming – how farmers look after their animals, what these animals provide for humans and teaching us how food is produced. We know she has made friends with the farm pets and we will explore the differences between these groups of animals. A visit from the local fox will lead us into developing the children’s knowledge of wild animals. We will discuss many different wild animals and how to protect them.

Our focus in language lessons is developing the skill of discussion and persuasion. We will continue to develop maths through the scheme Summit Maths. Currently we are developing the skill of money and will soon set up our own Farm Shop.
